Cultural Connections

When Rockwell did this Post cover in 1955, women felt enormous social pressure to find a husband. The U.S. marriage rate was at an all-time high and couples were getting married at a younger age, most right out of high school or while in college. In the media, the “happy homemaker” was idealized.
