Cultural Connections

Charles Dickens(1817-1870) wrote “A Christmas Carol”, published in 1843, and other literary classics depicting the Victorian era. Rockwell’s father would read aloud Dickens’ novels to him as he who would faithfully render the story’s characters from its vivid descriptions. A fondness for drawing Dickens’ figures continued throughout Rockwell’s career, as seen on this “Post” cover.

Rockwell depicted a similar scene to Leech’s in this 1928 Saturday Evening Post cover.
